Started by Dr. Ching-Yi Lin of Western Kentucky University, Bridging Cultures Through Music (BCTM) has made it possible for English as Second Language (ESL) students to learn the violin. These students, many of whom are refugees, would likely not have the chance to learn violin without this program. Teaching through this program constantly reminds me just why I want to teach the violin. It can be so easy to take music and the opportunity to play it for granted, but when we share this gift to those whom it is likely inaccessible, it provides a heightened sense of purpose. The students always make my day so much more special and it is my sincere hope that I accomplish the same thing for them. The initial finding for this program came from the WKU Sisterhood Grant in 2017 and continues to be funded by community members and those who have a passion for this program.
